The 4th tale: De facto standard

This shows an impulse voltage generator which is indispensable in testing hig voltage apparatus.
It is possible to attain whatever high voltage, if voltage-applied capacitors are stacked on top of each other. Although this type of equipment look to be easily fabricated by anyone, and in fact shooting of this photo was permitted, all major factories worldwide had adopted the same type of equipment supplied by a particular maker in Switzerland. This is the case of the so-called de facto standard.
Asked about the reason to adopt that Swiss system, they all explained that apart from the hardware, considering the handling of their test data which are of micro-second order, they came to adopt that particulat system.
I visited this Swiss company several times for another equipment. Its manufacturing facility looked fine but the office was a very simple one situated in what it looks like a corner of an apartment housing. It reminded me of the word we like, simple and sturdy.
